I have had about two years of experience in tutoring kids of many grade levels at local after-school programs. Although I enjoy various school subjects, math is my favorite because of my love of numbers. Moreover, I get a thrill out of applying problems involving math and numbers to the real world and students' real-life experiences. For example, I figured that several middle school students at one of the organizations I worked for, the Japanese Community Youth Council, enjoyed playing video games, so I occasionally incorporated those into my demonstrations and examples. Additionally, I often worked with students in groups of two to four, and this encouraged collaboration among them. Consequently, the students’ grades increased by at least 25%. Furthermore, towards the close of the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years, the organization rewarded me for my contributions with certificates of recognition. At another program, 826 Valencia, I tutored kids ages 6-16 during the fall 2015 semester, providing another opportunity to engage and collaborate with students. For example, one student needed help with problems related to linear equations. The assignment contained the term “Figure 0”, the latter of which seemed foreign to me. But after I recalled terminology in my high school math classes, both of us were able to determine that Figure 0 was its y-intercept. Overall, I felt proud that I could help a student simplify a challenging concept.

I like to scaffold concepts to communicate effectively, and I exude strong ambassadorship, adaptive thinking, and a results-driven approach to communication. I have worked with large-scale brands and have been published across several platforms, including SSENSE.com, Reedsy.com, the Seattle NFT Museum, and FELA tv. ******* How I Work: English is my teachable subject and passion! I focus on critical thinking/application, persuasive writing, close reading, debate, and advertising. I am qualified to support English students in the intermediate and senior category, including college, university, and professionals. *Writing Sample Requirement* If you are looking for support in creative writing, essay writing, reader response, English 1/2/3/4 U/C, or post-secondary studies, you must share a writing sample with me before our session start-time. My preference is to receive samples at least 12 hours in advance. If that’s not possible, get in touch with me to see if we can make something work. Samples include reader response, persuasive paragraph, full essay, fiction excerpt, blog post, and any other creative or professional piece that you are currently writing or have written in the past. It can be an outline, a complete first draft, or a piece that has already been evaluated. Samples are essential because they introduce me to your writing style, and a 12-hour advance gives me enough time to narrow down specific areas of focus.
