5000+ hours experience tutoring all ages and abilities in math, science, SAT/ACT prep, college essays, and more

I’m Dave, and I want to be your tutor! I graduated magna cum laude from Williams College in 2014 and have been tutoring full-time for more than five years, with over 7000 hours of one-on-one sessions from 2017 to present. I first gravitated toward tutoring because of my strong academic background: in high school, I earned straight As in all academic subject areas, scored a 2400 on the SAT, and 5s on ten AP exams. In college, I completed a dual major in political economy and environmental policy as well as significant coursework in math and english, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society with the top 2% of my graduating class. However, academic aptitude is only one requirement for tutoring excellence – over the last five years, my first priority has been learning new approaches to teaching material and getting to know my students’ learning styles so that I am able to present subject matter in the way that makes most sense to you. I’ll do everything I can to help you feel comfortable and supported in our work together – my sessions are always a safe place to make mistakes (that’s when the learning happens!), and I am always happy to explain more or review prerequisite material you might be a little rusty on. I work in nearly all subject areas, but my specialties are math and science courses, SAT/ACT prep (including all sections of these tests), and college essays/applications. The majority of my students are in grades 6-12, but I have experience working with students of all ages. I’m equally comfortable working with all ability levels, whether I’m helping struggling students get up to speed or helping high-achieving students challenge themselves to do even better. I offer sessions online and have been working 100% remotely since before the pandemic, so I’m confident in my ability to help all students thrive in an online learning environment. If you think I might be a good fit for your needs, reach out and we can schedule a free in-depth consultation!

Simple and Concise Tutoring, Personalized for You

I have been instructing for years and I enjoy teaching everything from martial arts to calculus. I am happy to help you through any elementary, middle, or high school course. I have read and studied textbooks that are horrible at explaining things. I had to work hard to learn a lot of lessons. But now, you can reap the benefits of my experience by being my tutee! I am different than other tutors (or textbooks for that matter) because of my teaching method. I break concepts down in a way that are understandable and repeatable. Here's the process: 1. I explain what we're doing. This sounds simple, but textbooks and tutors alike forget to leave it out. If we are studying Pythagorean Theorem, I will start out by stating what we are doing clearly and concisely. 2. I demonstrate what we're doing. To continue with the Pythagorean Theorem example, I would present a problem where this concept should be used, and I will complete the problem in full so you, the student, can see the full answer. 3. We will do problems together. Depending on the complexity and length of the problems in question, we will do singular or multiple questions at a high-, mid-, and low-level of explanation for each. 4. You will repeat a few of the questions that use the particular concept we are studying. I will be there to help you along if you get stuck. 5. Of course you will be asking questions along the way, but now, at the end, you can ask any final ones.

Professional Math Tutor for 7 Years and BEd Student

Currently, a student at the University of Alberta in their Faculty of Education's Second Year Majoring in Math working towards a Bachelors of Education (Secondary) Degree to one day teach High School - University Level Math. Passionate in the way students are taught and learn how to effectively use math in an increasingly more complicated world. Enthusiastic and loving, hopeful and kind, and will bring out the best in your students. I have tutored privately for more than 7 years and taught in a group (classroom-like) setting for more than a year now, students have gone from failing to passing over the course of weeks working together and believe that any student with the right mindset and focus/determination can accomplish anything whether that be in the realm of math or something else. I tutor Elementary Math, Middle School Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Pre Calculus, Calculus I & II, Geometry, and More and love it!! Why? because a hard work ethic based on a foundation of the kind of problem-solving skills you gain from elementary to complex math not only teaches one individual that there is more than one way to come to a correct answer but also teaches that same individual never to give up and to try new things regardless of how many times they need to start again. Math also teaches us that after coming to the right answer there will be things or events that confirm our work, given that nearly all math can be cross-checked to prove itself right. outside of Math, I enjoy taking some time to hang out with close friends and loved ones, to play chess and to watch movies.

Maths and Statistics Tutor|6+ Years Experience

Bio Hi everyone ! My name is Amna, and I've been a Maths tutor since 2014. I started by working at my university's Tutoring and Tutoring Center, where I worked with Algebra, maths, physics, and science students from school level to graduate level students. I kept this job until I graduated in the summer of 2017 with two Bachelor of Science degrees, one in Mathematics and one in Physics. After graduating, I moved on to online tutoring, which I have been doing ever since last 5 years. The bulk of my tutoring experience has been with maths and physics students. I have worked with math students in Algebra; Trigonometry; Precalculus; Calculus I, II, and III; Differential Equations; Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Topology, Statistics, Linear Algebra, Geometry and High School Integrated Mathematics. My physics students were taking classes like Algebra-Based General Physics, Calculus-Based General Physics, Statics, Dynamics, Modern Physics, and High School Physics. If you are interested, feel free to get in touch with me through Tutorocean Whiteboard . I am always happy to meet new students! I want to help you succeed, and if you let me know what you want to work on before we start each lesson, I can provide the most individualized support. Please send me any homework /assignments, practice sets, or test reviews that you would like to review before we meet, if you are able to do so. This will allow me to be prepared to answer any questions you may have!

University of Waterloo

Math and Physics tutor with experience in online instruction.

I am an undergraduate candidate at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. My major is in Physics with a focus on the theory of quantum information processing. Ever since, my highschool days, I have regularly volunteered for tuition services spanning levels of education from the primary to the secondary school level. In university, I have regularly administered tutorials and help sessions at the tutorial centers. While I enjoy teaching a range of subjects, my areas of interest and expertise are Mathematics and Physics with a focus on the development of foundational intuition required to adapt to the problems normally seen in these subjects. Mathematics and Physics might not be everyone's cup of tea but in my opinion, a fair shot at these subjects provides students with invaluable skills required for any sort of technical and analytical work they might be interested in the future. Hence, I am a firm proponent of developing a hands-on intuition with these subjects rather than focusing on memorization of problems.
