I am on a personal mission to share my passion for maths with my students and to challenge and engage with them so that they thrive in this subject. I try to understand each student individually and tailor my teaching methods accordingly. I think it is important that students understand what they are doing rather than just trying to memorize how to solve the problem. To get a better understanding of maths requires making mistakes and learning from them and of course lots of practice which is an important aspect of all my lessons. I have a first class degree in maths from Birmingham University and I have been working in the actuarial profession for 8 years qualifying as an Actuary 3 years ago. I myself suffered from maths anxiety at school and private tutoring helped me to overcome this and to go on to develop a love for the subject. I would like to help other students to overcome any difficulties or stresses that they have with maths like I once did so that they get a head start.

I currently work as a sceintist for a major pharmaceutical company, although my main passion is mentoring and tutoring enthusiastic young people who want to improve their grades at school. I have completed work for a PhD in Biosciences at the University of Birmingham. Following this I completed 8 months training as a lecturer, before leaving to enter chemical industry. My preferable subject to teach is Maths, but I am also able to teach both Chemistry and Biology at ages 5-16. I have almost 3 years of experience of one-to-one tuition. Medical student offering personal tuition for students of any skill level from junior school to GCSE. From October to April, most of my time is spent at university in Birmingham, but through the Summer months I'm back home in Portsmouth. I attended the Portsmouth Grammar School from age 8 to 18, and achieved 11 A*s at GCSE and 41/45 points at IB Diploma (A level equivalent). In that time I also gained early experience in tuition, assisting with junior school French and English classes. I have always found tremendous satisfaction from helping others learn and grasp concepts, and would love to share any knowledge and experience gained through school and university to assist others in their progress and allow them to feel more confident in their learning. Having seen my own brother struggle with dyslexia and subsequently thrive thanks to one-to-one sessions, I have a true appreciation for the difference that personal tuition can make not only to a child's learning, but also to their self-esteem. Everybody works best using different techniques, many of which are not fully utilised in a classroom setting. I would give students an opportunity to tackle areas of weakness using learning styles best suited to them.
