I have been lucky to work with recipients of “Top 40 Under 40” awards (as ranked by the Ottawa Business Journal) for a few years as project manager in a small contract web development firm. It was through their tutoring that I cemented my skills in negotiation, mentoring and other techniques necessary to excel at a variety of career paths I've explored
Most of my professional career has centered around building marketing, sales and promotional websites as well as complex systems with multiple stakeholders exchanging highly detailed data. Helping customers and business owners work better together in the emerging online space
My drive however has always been towards helping build communities of people who make the best of their skills. When working in recording studios - those skills were the fine tuned arts of a musician. As a project manager; I worked with teams of skilled developers, designers and system administrators to build bespoke business solutions. Now that I live on a farm; those skills are engine repair, welding, carpentry and forestry before we even get into soil science and agronomics
One of my favorite areas to work in is providing mentoring and training for upcoming developers. Through these mentorships I’ve been able to work directly with new programmers and students around the world. On a more typical work day I act either as a lead developer or as a liaison between clients with specific business concerns and designers who help make it look great
