A month-long course where I learned the basics of teaching English as a Foreign Language.

This course allowed me to: Demonstrate the ability to transform content knowledge into pedagogical knowledge in a manner that addresses the needs of all students. Demonstrate knowledge of the Curriculum, different aspects of the Learning and Teaching process and issues of Assessment, thus being in a position to provide positive experiences to all students in their educational journey, Design lessons, classroom activities etc. that put the well-being of students and their families at the heart of education. Recognise and value the powerful role that teachers have in influencing the lives of children, youths and their careers. Recognise and value the advocacy role that teachers have between the student and the educational institutions, their structures and policies. Demonstrate the ability to nurture and develop the relationship between teacher and students. Justify and defend that individual students need different support in their education process, Recognise the political role that education has for the State, and how this is reflected in policies and institutional structures, Theorise about ‘becoming-teacher’ as an ongoing process of growth. Rather than seeing oneself as ‘being a teacher’, the focus is on the constant process of ‘becoming-teacher’. This implies that one is to reflect continuously about one’s own practices and the education institutions one is working in. Recognise and value that research is seen not only as production of knowledge but also part of the reflective process in becoming-teachers.

This course enabled me to: Recall and explain of essential facts, concepts, principles and theories relating to different fields of chemistry. Apply such knowledge and understanding to the solution of both qualitative and quantitative problems in chemistry. Recognise and analyse problems and plan strategies for your solution. Handle chemical materials safely. Document laboratory procedures involved in experimental work in organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry. Apply numerical and mathematical methods areas outside the field of study.

• Taught Year 7s and 8s Integrated Science and Year 9s and 10s Chemistry. • Created and implemented lessons tailored to students' interests, capabilities and needs. • Adapted lessons and resources accordingly in order to create interactive and engaging learning experiences. • Prepared and created assessment tasks suited to different learners' abilities, in collaboration with the relevant LSEs (Learning Support Educators). • Prepared and designed experiments and demonstrations where needed. • Aided and facilitated different extra-curricular activities as much as possible, notably: 1. Science Club (Informal discussions, experimentation and demonstrations based on various scientific phenomena such as Pressure, Heat, etc.); 2. Debate Club (Informal topical discussions and debates around current affairs such as social media, the media, journalism, the prison system, propaganda, politics, etc.); 3. Student Council (Supervised some initial sessions of the formation of the school student council); 4. Thematic STEM Debate (Mentored a Year 10 student in her preparation for a Thematic STEM Debate, whereby she had to present an informed perspective on the advantages and disadvantages of medical technology).

I replaced a number of different lessons for students of various age-groups and for different subjects as and where necessary I was also tasked with teaching and preparing Drama lessons for Year 8s (i.e., 12-13 year-olds) where we explored the voice, posture, character development, and emotional and bodily expression.

Responsible for teaching Year 8s, 9s and 10s. Tasked with preparing lessons, experiments, informal and formal assessments, and their delivery, guidance and correction.

Replacing class teachers and activity leaders where necessary (either due to staff being on leave or sick). Preparing science experiments and water games, supervising classes while on outings, or guiding classes from one pre-planned activity to another.

Responsible for organising weekly Science club sessions for students aged 3-13 - from activities based around the science of music and sound, to different kinds of animals, what sounds they make, and their young.

Responsible for the organisation and leadership of a class of 9-12 year-olds in a host of activities - from science experiments to cooking, sports to oral presentations, water games, and treasure hunts.

Tasked with preparing and delivering lessons to Year 7s and 8s, preparation for and conducting experiments with students, preparation and correction of informal and formal assessments (e.g homeworks, tests, exams, etc.) Responsible for a weekly Science club targeting 9-11 year-olds, held after school hours Tasked with the preparation of a number of interactive activities and experiments for students.

Responsible for assembling, coordinating and leading a group of individuals in putting up monthly sessions open to the public, targeting primary school children, centered around science activities and experiments Tasked with creating resources, buying supplies, brainstorming activities and organizing the logistics of these events among others.
